p. 3The immense utility of a Directory, in a city of such greatimportance as Norwich, can only befairly estimated by those who, having felt the need, have hadoccasion to regret the want, which the Publisher hopes this workwill be found to supply.

Every endeavour has been made to render the Norwich Directory and Handbook as completeand perfect a work of reference as possible, without regard toexpense; and it is hoped that, notwithstanding occasional andtrivial errors,—some owing to the changes which are dailytaking place, and others which will creep into all such books, inspite of the utmost diligence,—it will be received in aliberal spirit.

The usefulness of this Directory andHandbook will doubtless be considerably extended in futureeditions.
