THE great alienist sat down athis desk, and having emptiedhis mind of all other impressions,held it up like a dipper for hisnew patient to fill. Large, blond,and handsome, she was plainly accustomedto being listened to. Beforeshe had fairly undone her fursand folded her hands within hermuff, the doctor’s lateral vision hadtold him that, whatever her problems,it was not about her own nervoussystem that she had come toconsult him.
