FUGITIVE POETRY.

Be it remembered, that on the eleventh day of September, A.D. 1829, inthe fifty-fourth year of the Independence of the United States ofAmerica, Peirce and Williams, of the said district, have deposited inthis office the title of a book, the right whereof they claim asproprietors in the words following, to wit:

"Fugitive Poetry: By N.P. Willis.

"'If, however, I can, by lucky chance, in these days of evil, rub outone wrinkle from the brow of care, or beguile the heart of one moment ofsorrow; if I can, now and then, penetrate the gathering film ofmisanthropy, prompt a benevolent view of human nature, and make myreader more in good humor with his fellow beings, and himself, surely,surely, I shall not then have written entirely in vain.' WashingtonIrving."

In conformity to the Act of the Congress of the United States, entitled"An Act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies ofmaps, charts, and books, to the authors and proprietors of such copies,during the times therein mentioned;" and also to an Act entitled "An Actsupplementary to an Act, entitled 'An Act for the encouragement oflearning, by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books, to theauthors and proprietors of such copies during the times thereinmentioned;' and extending the benefits thereof to the arts of designing,engraving, and etching historical and other prints."
