The following small compilation(for it claims no higher title) was made at the request ofseveral friends, as the want of such a little Manuel principallyfor the use of Strangers, was generally known andacknowledged.  The Writer would not have permitted his nameto appear, had he not been persuaded by the Publisher, that thecountenance of even such an obscure individual would in somedegree tend to promote the sale of the work.  Some of theSubscribers, there is reason to apprehend, expect a full andcomplete History of the County, but surely they do not supposethat such a work could be compressed within the compass of anoctavo volume, or sold for such a small sum.

At some future period, the Writer would not be unwilling toundertake such a Publication, (should he meet with properencouragement, and his life be spared) as he has for many yearsbeen coll
